Bus Travel Information Astor House Museum

Astor House Museum

The Astor House Museum is a Colorado boarding house from the frontier era of 1867. Located in historic downtown Golden, it was used to house legislators, and it acted as a boarding house for over 100 years and is now a museum for all to see.

Restored to it's original glory, the museum is a late Victorian hotel/boarding house and is absolutely beautiful. Ida Goetze, a young widow purchased the house in 1892. She and her family used it as a boarding house until the 1950's. People remembered their residence at the boarding house where they were able to enjoy Mrs. Goetze's home cooking! The museum offers a look into the life of Ida Goetze, Golden pioneers and founders and boarding house residents.

There are rotating exhibits in a variety of subjects that will educate you about the time period from 1867 to 1908. The museum also offers different kinds of special events. Such as "Tea Time at the Astor House" which include a genuine Victorian Tea served with a light luncheon and a dramatic presentation finishing with a self-guided museum tour.

There are many different presenters for these special events. Presenters that share information about things such as women's historic head wear and it's evolution through history, frontier cooking and blacksmithing workshops. An arts and trades fair which features historic crafts in which you are able to compare modern methods and 1800's traditional techniques. There is even a "Cemetery Stroll." Which is a guided tour with guides in Victorian dress leading you through Golden Cemetery in a "walk in the past" introducing you to the ghosts and pointing out monuments of interest. The "strolls" last about an hour and refreshments are served as well.

This museum offers a great look back in time. All the way back to the 1800's. Take a look for yourself, and join in on all the fun!
