The architecture is a restored Italian style villa that was home to the legendary Clara Driscoll, who was a businesswoman, author, playwright, and politician. She designed the gardens which consist of lawns and shrubs and flowers, intersected by paths and steps, with balustrades, and oil jars of ancient design. There are also a number of graceful and lovely statues brought all the way from the oldest and finest gardens in the world, to give the wild and sometimes violent atmosphere of Texas a splash of dignity and Old World touches. It also provides the home for The Art School.
The welcoming and centrally located galleries serve as the Museum's main exhibition site and present constantly changing exhibitions and education programs that feature a vast array of twentieth-century and contemporary art.
