Travel News: British police uncover liquid explosives, travel safely
Tuesday, November 07, 2006
It's been a horrifying day for the British police when they discovered a blow-up plot by a group of terrorists. They uncovered the plan just in the nick of time. The liquid explosives would have been successfully loaded on board the plane if not for the ever-watchful eyes of the British Police.
Going on the same note, US police and Transportation Safety Administration instantly got into gear and started imposing new travel rules. Among them was, of course, prohibition of carrying liquids, pastes, gels onto aircrafts of any size or engine. The arrests of the terrorist caused a domino effect in other airports all around the world as flights were delayed and passengers shifted around. Every item that they think possible (especially liquid) will be screened to see if they contained explosives or harmful materials.
So, if you're traveling some time soon or even today, be ready for thorough checking as police do their duty to ensure that no form of liquid or gel is carried on board. There are exceptions and they are prescription drugs, medication and baby food. However, being extra careful when there are so many lives involved is never a bad thing. If police officials are suspicious, they may require you to produce prescription for the medication or perhaps even consume them before boarding. In some cases, you may be required to take a little sip from your baby's formula milk or taste the baby food yourself.
The heightened security is not taken lightly although airport staff and police officials are expected to be less uptight about this rule in the near future.
