The Powder Magazine is located at 79 Cumberland Street, just west of Church Street. In years past, this building was extremely important to the safety and welfare of the city of Charleston. This building happened to be the place where powder was stored back in the day to help defend the city against any problems. Today, it is known as the only public building still standing from the days of the Lords Proprietors in either of the states of North Carolina or South Carolina.
This historical building was constructed way back in the year 1713. It is a quite unique and interesting experience to visit this place that is now the home to a museum telling all about the history of Charleston and the surrounding area.
