There are actually approximately 2,200 Civil War veterans buried there, as well as approximately 1,700 graves of known and unknown Confederate veterans. You can even visit the burial site of the crew of the H.L. Hunley, a Confederate submarine that was lost at sea. The burial plot was donated for the graves of the seven crew members by the family of Horace L. Hunley who was the designer of the sub.
Magnolia is still actually a working cemetery, with approximately 35,000 people already laid to rest there.
