Nestled in the middle of San Antonio, Texas is the Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum. This museum is loaded with some of the finest European and American art from both the 19th and 20th centuries. For some time, the McNay has been a wonderful art spot in Texas for people to go and see some wonderful and educational pieces of artwork.
Within the collection at the McNay, you will find works by such artists Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse, Cassatt, Cezanne, O'Keefe and Hopper. It is said that there are over 14,000 items on display at any given time for your viewing pleasure. The 24-room mansion, formerly owned by Marion Koogler McNay, makes a lovely setting for such a beautiful and important art collection. The Spanish Colonial style structure itself sits upon a gorgeous 23 acres of land as well.
Admission price to the museum is always free unless there is a special event or exhibit that is taking place. If you would like to schedule a tour, you can either do so with a self guided group tour or a docent led group tour. You may even reserve the grounds of the McNay Museum for your special event if you wish.
The Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum is located on 6000 North New Braunfels in San Antonio. The hours that you may stop by for a visit are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, Thursday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 noon until 5:00 PM. The museum is usually closed on every Monday and all of the major national holidays.
