The Needles Eye of South Dakota
Nestled in the gorgeous landscape of Custer Park sits a natural geological formation called the Needles Eye. People come from miles and miles away just to get their chance to climb this natural wonder. If rock climbing is something that you are very passionate about, then this is the area that you need to explore. A trip to see what Needles Eye is all about can make for quite an interesting and memorable excursion.
South Dakota has long since been known to have some of the best formations for climbing. However, the area that seems to be a favorite for most people is in the Black Hills area of Custer Park, home to the Needles Eye. A great number of avid climbers are quite fond of conquering the Needles Eye during the winter months. This area has been said to have some of the nicest ice routes in the entire region.
Due to its popularity, the Needles Eye does tend to become a bit crowded during the prime tourist season between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Be sure that you plan accordingly so that you are not stuck amongst congestion and difficult parking. Even if you are not a climber yourself, a visit to this area can still be quite wonderful. You will want to be sure that you remember to bring along your camera with lots of extra film. Getting pictures of the Needles Eye are a necessity and make a lovely addition to any scrapbook or photo album of your trip to South Dakota.
