Northeastern Nevada Museum
The Northeastern Nevada museum is located at 1515 Idaho Street. The museum features the original 1860 Ruby Valley Pony Express Cabin at the entrance. The exhibits that are inside the museum range from Nevada’s largest collection of mounted wild animals, from all around the world, to photographs from world famous photographers like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. An Olympic champion’s firearms, Shoshone baskets, a 1930’s living room, a general store, and a printing shop are among the other things displayed in this museum.
The Northeastern Nevada Museum also has an extensive history gallery, which features early toys, bottles, Chinese artifacts, and the works of a world famous saddle maker. There really is something for everyone here in this museum. A history gallery of Native American baskets, ghost towns, mining camps, ranching, and a world class firearms collection help to round out the collection a little further.
The Northeastern Nevada Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of the heritage of Northeastern Nevada and the state of Nevada, and in order to accomplish this, the Society maintains this museum. The museum is a rich source of information about the tribes of the Great Basin. These archives include pictures, newspaper clippings, vital statistics, and books about the tribes. Some of the archives even include scrapbooks and obituaries. The art collection has items by local and regional artists and a valuable photograph collection.
