See Newark in the Comfort of a Tour Bus
Start your tour of Newark with the tour bus stopping at the Old Swedes Church. The Old Swedes Church, built in 1699, is the oldest church in continued use in the United States. This stone and brick church overlooks the Christina River, and through it's artifacts, tells of it's history of starting as the Swedish Lutheran Church. The church yard is the setting for the Hendrickson House that was moved and restored in 1958 and now houses artifacts of rural Delaware form 1690 to 1800.
Load up on the tour bus and head over to the Delaware Art Museum at 2301 Kentmere Pkwy. The Museum houses a collection of 12,000 works of art that includes American art from the 1840's to the present, including the largest display of Pre-Raphaelite English art. You'll enjoy te glass walls overlooking the Sculpture Garden Terrace which is host to dining and special events.
The next stop for the tour bus is the Rockwood Museum at 610 Shiplley Road. Enjoy this restored Gothic mansion with furnishing and decorative arts from the 17th, 18th, and 19th-centuries. Decorative paintings can be found in many of the rooms, a conservatory filled with greenery and spacious, beautifully decorated bedrooms. A self-serve cafe, the Butler's Pantry, offers visitors a resting spot while taking their time touring the Museum and grounds. Built in 1850 on 72 acres, the Rockwood Museum is located on a New Castle County owned park and includes hiking trails.
