The South Carolina State Museum
When looking for a great place to stop when you are in Columbia, South Carolina would have to be the State Museum. The South Carolina State Museum is a wonderful way for you to learn all about the rich history and culture of this fabulous state. There are all kinds of great programs and activities that go on throughout the year here that are just perfect for the whole entire family.
During your visit to the South Carolina State Museum, there are many different areas that you can explore. The Stringer Discovery Center is a really neat place that is just perfect for children to explore. Here, they will find fun floor puzzles, a tree house, and much more. On the third floor of the museum is Science Theater, where you can get some hands on interaction with all kinds of science projects. Then, at the NatureSpace, you can learn all about the vegetation and animals that make up the wonderful South Carolina environment through actual plant, animal and mineral specimens.
The South Carolina State Museum is located on 301 Gervais Street in lovely downtown Columbia. The hours that you can stop by to experience it for yourself are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and Sundays from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. There are regular closings on all of the major national holidays. Admission to the South Carolina State Museum is only $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for children ages 3 through 12 and free for children age 2 and under.
