Stopping By The Menger Bar
It is probably a pretty solid bet that anybody who lives in the San Antonio, Texas area has paid a visit at one time or another to the Menger Bar. This famous bar is located within the equally famous Menger Hotel, located at 204 Alamo Plaza. The Menger Bar is a truly beautiful and cozy venue that you absolutely have to see in order to appreciate it.
Back in 1887, this bar was designed under the direction of Hermann Kampmann who was the manager at the time. Hermann Kampmann had a vision of the bar looking like a replica of the famous London watering hole known as the House of Lords Pub. This was a very good move and the Menger Bar was soon set up with fine ceiling panels and booths made from gorgeous cherry wood. The architect also added some really stunning glass cabinets and beveled mirrors that had to be shipped all the way from France. Once everything was finished, the Menger Bar came out with a total price tag of $60.000, which was quite a lot for being back in the 1800s.
Whether you are a local or a tourist, everybody seems to enjoy each and every visit to the Menger Bar. The historic hotel setting and old pub style make for the perfect place to unwind at the end of a day with a few cold drinks. The staff at the Menger Bar is always friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to the spirits that they serve up. Speaking of spirits, this bar is supposed to have a local resident ghost on the premises that loves to walk by smoking a cigar, keep your eyes open!
