Visit Austin's University Of Texas Tower
If you'd like to do something a little different and not the usual tourist trap, make the 307-foot tall UT Austin Tower a destination to visit on your next visit to Austin, Texas.
The tower has been a staple of Austin skyline since 1937, however it was closed for nearly 30 years after the tragic rampage by Charles Whitman who gunned down several people using a high powered rifle from the tower. To remember the people that lost their lives that day, the UT Tower has designed a Tower Garden dedicated in their memory from that fateful day in August 1961.
The Tower has a grand sky deck with a spectacular view of the UT Campus and the Austin area in every direction. A remodeling effort put for by the students, staff, and UT administrative offices to make the observation deck updated and open to the public for the first time in nearly 30-years. The observation deck has also been updated to include access for individuals with mobility issues.
