New Orleans was devastated by the 2005 Hurricane Katrina, while many venues have reopened in this area - as of September 2006, only about a quarter of the previous population has returned to New Orleans and many tourist venues operate on reduced hours schedules - if you plan on visiting any of these attractions, be sure to call first and get the current hours of operation.
The Confederate Museum located at 929 Camp Street was established in 1899 and was originally opened from donated items. The collection has continued to grow since then and what you have today is an outstanding slice of time that captures life as it was for the Confederate Soldiers during the Civil War. New Orleans Fire Department Museum and Educational Center located at 1135 Washington Ave is a very interesting place to visit and will thrill the kids and the kids at heart with displays of fire engines and memorabilia from the past nearly 100 years.
