The Western Folklife Center
The Western Folklife Center is a great stop for any visitor in Elko Nevada. The Western Folklife Center is located at fifth and railroad streets. This is a nonprofit organization, which works to expand public understanding of themselves, and their neighbors, by celebrating everyday traditions of the people who live and work in the American West. The Folklife Center does all they can to create deep and lasting experiences, to challenge visitors' intellect, and to engage their emotions. The Folklife Center also strives to encourage a sense of belonging for those that live in the western regions of the country, both physically and spiritually, and to encourage small rural communities throughout the western region realize and appreciate their own cultural gifts.
The Western Folklife Center was founded in 1980, and since then, the Center has helped raise support for, and the public awareness of traditional, expressive cultures in the American West. The Western Folklife Center is best known for the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, but the Folklife Center also provides exhibitions, educational programs, and performances. Some of the exhibits you can see at the Folklife Center include 'Sheep Ranching in the American West," "The Mongolian Horseman", and many more. The exhibits frequently change, to rotate throughout other Folklife Centers in the American West.
Anyone interested in the American West will be thrilled with a visit to the Western Folklife Center. There is no better way to see the cultural diversity that is spread throughout our western regions.
