Trenton, New Jersey: Summer Camp
There is much to offer the history buff who is wondering what to do in Trenton, New Jersey. With its plentiful supply of museums you will not leave without knowing all there is to know about American and New Jersey history.
Your first stop should be to the Old Barracks Museum. Here you can enroll your child in a summer camp program that will take them back to the eighteenth century. They will learn how to cook, and to sing and dance in the old traditional ways. They will also learn how to make your own supplies just as soldiers and citizens did in the eighteenth century.
Your children can also join up with the troops and learn to march to the sounds of the fife and drum. They will also have the opportunity to learn the traditional tunes on their own fife and drum. They will learn how to make their own drum, and fifers will make their own cases. If they are good enough and make the cut, they may be asked to join in a recording session.
While the kids are off at summer camp, parents can enjoy visiting the Mercer County Arena where they can take in a hockey game featuring the Trenton Titans. If baseball is more your style, take a trip out to Mercer County Waterfront Park to see the Trenton Thunders play. If mom is not interested in sports, she can visit many colonial buildings at The State House and the Mill Hill Historic Districts. When everyone meets back up in the late afternoon, you can picnic together at Cadawalder and Washington State Park.
