Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial
The U.S.S. Battleship New Jersey was commissioned on May 23, 1943, launched December 7, 1942, and is one of the most decorated battleships in U.S. Navy history, the Battleship New Jersey is permanently berthed at the southern end of the Camden Waterfront. It is a signature waterfront attraction to veterans, patriots, and families from around the world. The ship opened as a museum October 15, 2001.
In 1975, a number of enthusiasts founded the Society as a statewide non-profit organization whose purpose was to bring the ship to a place of honored retirement in her "name" state
On August 10, 2001 the Society and the Home Port Alliance signed a contract giving the Society spaces aboard the ship to display artifacts and ship's history. The area given to the Society is the ship's officers lounge. Signing for the Society was president Vincent Falso, for the Alliance executive director Admiral Thomas Seigenthaler. Also present were Society trustees Stuart L. Chalkley, Gerald W. Gray, Paul T. Syers, Jr. and Gilbert Yoffredo.
