A primier art institution in it's own right, the Brooklyn Museum of Art features one of the finest Egyptian Art collections in the world. While hosting a permanent collection of Classical and Ancient Middle Eastern Art, Arts of Africa, the Pacific and the Americas. Also well noted for it's excellent temporary exhibits. It is the second largest museum in New York City, and is part of 19th century parks and gardens. Including the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and Prospect Park. The Beaux Arts building is an impressive 560,000-square-feet, holding over one millions art objects. Originally hoped to be larger than the Louvre, by the architects who designed it in the 1800s, their plans were dashed when the money ran out.
Many programs for all ages are offered at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Children ages 4-7 will enjoy the "Arty Facts" program held on weekends. It encourages them to create projects inspired by art in a particular gallery. Classes and lectures are offered for children ages 6 and up, as well as for adults. Introductory and advanced levels of art in all forms are available.
Weddings are a lovely site at The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, which is popular for ceremonies. Dining and dancing under the stars in the glass ceilinged Beaux Arts Court makes for a most memorable reception.
