Tropical Enchantment Awaits At The Central Florida Zoo
Located in Lake Monroe Florida the Central Florida Zoological park offers a wide variety of sites, sounds and adventure to all who visit.
This central Florida attraction started life in 1923 as the Sanford Zoo. The first inhabitants were donated by the Sanford Fire Department. The most important contribution of the Zoo, is the opportunity it provides to visitors for recreation and observation of the interesting animals that call the park home.
Visitors can stroll boardwalks and winding paths, while listening to the songs of the Kookaburra, and seeing elephants and mandrills. Rare and endangered species are also available for viewing at the Central Florida Zoologic Park, such as the endangered Amur leopard and the rare Puerto Rican crested toad. There is also a beautiful Butterfly Sensory Garden, here visitors can touch, listen, look and smell the wonderful garden that surrounds them.
The Central Florida Zoologic Park participates in the conservation of animals through the "Species Survival Plan" there are 12 ongoing SSP programs located at the zoo. Every year over 75,000 school children visit the Zoo, and also participate in formal education programs. The objective being to teach biodiversity and appreciation of animals to the children. These programs along with reintroduction and field projects, research and public education will help ensure that the inhabitants of the park will thrive and flourish for many years to come.
The Central Florida Zoological Park is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for Thanksgiving day and Christmas day. The cost of admission is as follows: Adults $8.95, Seniors 60+ $6.95, children 3-12 $4.95, and kids 2 and under are free. For more information please call 407-323-4450 EX 130
