Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum
Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum
The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum was born out of a commitment to stimulate and preserve the appreciation of the richness and beauty of the Mexican and Latino cultures in the city's large Mexican community, as well as to educate the City of Chicago to the wealth and breadth of the Mexican culture and its contributions to society at large.
The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum's (MFACM) Permanent Collection contains over 5,000 artifacts for your viewing pleasure. Additionally, this is one of the largest collections of Mexican art in the nation. The MFACM is the only Latino museum accredited by the American Association of Museums and one of only a handful of museums of color in the country to receive accreditation. It has become the premier repository for Mexican art in the nation. In 2001, the Museum tripled in size to accommodate state-of-the-art storage vaults and additional galleries to showcase its Collection.
The Permanent Collection includes:
Prints and Drawings that include traditional Mexican folk art, photography,
painting and sculpture, colonial and pre-Cuauhtemoc artifacts, hand made textiles.
Ephemera collection (made from found objects) is a huge part of the Mexican folk art collection. Many of the pieces on permanent display are frequently on loan to other venues around the City of Chicago and the Nation.

Closed Mondays and Martin Luther King's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day. Admission is FREE for exhibitions. Performance festivals are ticketed.
