If you are ever lucky enough to visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science, be sure to stop by and see all of the butterflies on display inside at the Cockrell Butterfly Center. This is a truly amazing exhibit with hundreds of live butterflies in a gorgeous rainforest setting for your complete viewing pleasure. To be more specific, there are at least 50 to 60 different species of some of the most colorful butterflies that you will ever witness in one place.
This is a truly wonderful treat for your entire family or even a nice place to bring somebody special for a date. These lovely butterflies have even been known to take breaks from the flowers and fruit to stop by and land on a visitor now and then. What a wonderful experience to behold!
All of the butterflies are raised on various butterfly farms in different tropical regions. North, South and Central America and Asia are just a few of the places that they are raised. They are then shipped to the Butterfly Center while in their chrysalis form before hatching. You can stop by the Chrysalis Corner located at the center where you may even be able to watch one of these gorgeous creatures come into the world before your very own eyes! This is a great experience for both children and adults alike to witness.
The hours that you may stop by and visit the Cockrell Butterfly Center are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday and then 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday. There are several shops located on the premises of the Houston Museum of Natural Science where you may stop by to find some truly amazing and unique gifts. The Collectors Shop is located right near the Cockrell Butterfly Center and you can get items here such as jewelry, books and other hand-crafted items.
