Colorado Sports Hall of Fame: Not Just Snow Skiing
Think of sports in Colorado and what comes to mind? Surely the Denver Nuggets, quarterback John Elway and his 1997 Broncos, the Avalanche hockey team. How about Whizzer White, Babe Didrickson Zaharias and Patrick Dempsey? Think of Denver, Colorado and sports probably aren't the first thing to cross one's mind. Wild Indians, stagecoach robbers and the Overland Trail are a likelier first image. But Colorado has been birthplace and home to scores of notable sports figures, and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is the place to find out who they were.
Of course it takes sporting skill and extraordinary talent to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Even being nominated is an honor; clearing the hurdles to a full induction is nothing short of remarkable. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is located in Invesco Field, Denver. Before of after a game, wander awhile and explore the various exhibits that document great moments in sports history, Colorado-style.
The most recent indutee is former Denver Bronco Shannon Sharpe. Baby brother of another NFL player, Sterling Sharpe of the Green Bay Packers, Shannon was drafted by the Broncos in 1980. Over the course of his remarkable career, Shannon Sharpe earned three Super Bowl rings - two with the Denver Broncos, one with the Baltimore Ravens. He is a well-loved Denver athlete, now retired from football and hoping to make a name for himself in broadcasting. His spot in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was a long time coming and well-deserved.
For high rollers interested in investing in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, for a one-time feel of ten thousand dollars, one may sponsor a pillar in the Sports Legends Mall - an informative walkway leading to the entrance of Invesco Field. Each of these pillars (there are around 180 of them) features a notable figure from Colorado sports history. Pillars still in need of sponsoring include those of 2005 HOF indictees Joe Belmont, April Heinrichs and Chad Hennings. Contact CEO Tom Lawrence at the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame at 720.258.3536 for information on how to sponsor a pillar.
