To grab a peek of one of the most unique collections of Americana in the Houston, Texas area, be sure and stop by Bayou Bend. Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is located at 1 Westcott Street, formerly the home of a remarkable woman named Miss Ima Hogg. You will be swept away by the collection of American decorative arts, the stunning architecture and some of the most beautiful gardens that you have ever laid your eyes on.
The gorgeous house at Bayou Bend was designed by architect John F. Staub between 1927 and 1928. Miss Hogg took the dense wooded area around the home and transformed it into some of the most stunning and wonderful gardens made to host outdoor living and entertainment events. Plus, the gorgeous view from the house is a lovely bonus as well.
Bayu Bend and the collections inside were donated to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston by Miss Hogg back in 1957. Since 1966, it has been open to the public for viewing and is known as one of the greatest finds in the Houston area today. You will be completely overwhelmed at the beauty of the thousands of objects on display within the home.
If you would like to take a guided tour of the home at Bayou Bend, the hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and again from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm, and Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:15 am. The 90-minute tours are offered to the public every 15 minutes. Admission is $10 for adults, $8.50 for senior and college students with valid ID, and $5 for children ages 10 to 17. Self-guided audio tours of the home are also available as well as self-guided garden tours to suit whatever your tastes may be.
