Littleton Historical Museum
Littleton Historical Museum is a marvelous and unique link with the past and the present of Littleton, Colorado. It's located at 6028 South Gallup Street Littleton, Colorado 303-795-3950.
The museum is located on 14 acres next to Ketring Lake and is composed of two living history farms. The 1860s farm and the 1890s turn-of-the-century farm show how the people in Littleton, Colorado lived and worked during the early years in Littleton and the South Platte Valley. There is also a working, early 1900s blacksmith shop, an ice house and Littleton's first one room school house.
Staff works the farm sites, run the blacksmith shop and teach in the school house, offering a "living history" perspective to the museum visitor. The Collections Center, across the street from the museum, has an awesome collection of over 40,000 historically significant artifacts that are used as educational tools, for research and in the changing exhibits in the museum galleries. Once the renovation and construction is completed, the research library in the main museum building will have a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts, and a wonderful collection of over 3,000 historical photographs for use by the public. The Research Center in the main museum building has an outstanding collection of over 2,000 books and manuscripts and over 6,000 historical photographs for use by the public.
The Kids just love the 'Fun on the Farms' program. Check first for the different programs that are running throughout the year. There are many to take part in such as,stopping by the farmhouse kitchen to learn to make jam, historic firearms, harvest cooking, and meet the bovines where you can meet and learn about the cows of the museum.
The farm is closed on Mondays and holidays but is open for your enjoyment:
Tue-Fri: 8 am-5 pm; Sat: 10 am-5 pm; Sun: 1-5 pm.
