The CISL which stands for CISL Computational and Information Systems Laboratory is always seeking new ways to use their computer equipment to dictate new ways of interpreting the atmosphere through mathematical equations. The IMAGe Institute for Mathematical Applications in the Geosciences follows the same theory in hopes of making it easier to predict weather and other atmospheric events through the application of mathematical formulas.
EOL Earth Observing Laboratory (formerly ATD) develops programs for facilities worldwide to monitor atmospheric changes that directly affect weather. They are currently monitoring the current trends in hurricane rainbands because so many high powered hurricanes have struck the coastal USA in 2005.
The ESSL, Earth and Sun Systems Laboratory studies a variety of things such as the bottom of the oceans, the highest points of Earth's atmosphere and beyond into the solar system, from global warming of the planet to the inner structure of the sun, from the path of hurricanes to the CO2 and nitrogen balance in the atmosphere and how it affects us all.
