Do Not Miss The Heritage Society In Houston

Do Not Miss The Heritage Society In Houston

Would you like to learn a little about the amazing past of Houston, Texas? If you would, be sure to pencil in a visit to the Heritage Society the next time you are visiting the Houston area. The Heritage Society is the only outdoor, interactive museum and park located within the city.

On the grounds, there are 19 acres of gorgeous parks for your enjoyment. There are always hundreds of visitors flocking to the 8 historic structures maintained by the Heritage Society. The dates of the buildings range from 1823 to 1905. When you visit each one of these homes, you can learn about the wonderful part that each one of these families played in the earlier times in Houston.

The Yates House was built by a freed slave named Jack Yates back in 1870. Reverend Yates was a well known religious leader in the Houston community. Back in 1994, his home was given to the Heritage Society and was moved to the park for display.

The Staiti House was built back in 1905. Bought by an oil tycoon named Henry T. Saiti, this lavish and spacious house was complete with professional landscaping as well as electricity. The Staiti House was brought to the park for display in 1986.

The Heritage Society museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm and on Sundays from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. There are also tours available of the historic houses. The times are as follows: Tuesday through Friday at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm.

Saturday times are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on the hour, every hour. On Sundays, reservations are suggested for the 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm tours. You can call them to set up group tours or ask for more information at (713) 655-1912.
