The Mexican Cultural Institute is a perfect venue to showcase the contributions that Mexico and the Mexican culture have made to the history of San Antonio.
The Mexican Cultural Institute was founded in 1972 and since that time has been presenting a myriad of Mexican exhibits to promote the influence the Mexican culture has had on San Antonio. This Institute is an extension of the National University of Mexico and promotes Mexican culture through on-going art exhibits, photography, films, lectures, workshops, concerts, dance performances and theater.
The Mexican Cultural Institute also features an outstanding library with both Spanish language literature as well as information about the arts and crafts of Mexico, food fare that can be found South of the border and Mexican history as it relates to San Antonio.
If you want to pick up some authentic Mexican crafts for gifts of mementos of your visit to San Antonio, the Mexican Cultural Institute offers a gift shop filled with folk art and crafts at very pretty prices.
The Mexican Cultural Institute is normally located within HemisFair Park. Recent construction has forced the Cultural Institute to move to a temporary facility at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The Mexican Cultural Institute is expected to move back in Spring of 2006 when construction on the area is completed.
Mexican Cultural Institute hours are open Monday - Friday: 9:30 AM - 5 PM.
Admission is always free.
