Remembering The Holocaust In Houston

Remembering The Holocaust In Houston

There is a wonderful place in the Houston area dedicated to helping educate people about the horrors of the Holocaust. Over 6 million innocent Jews and others lost their lives throughout the terribly tragic time period. The Holocaust Museum Houston is open with a main goal to teach about the dangers that are involved with hatred, prejudice and apathy.

There are a great many permanent exhibitions on display as well as other interesting programs and events on a regular basis. Since the time the Holocaust Museum opened back in March 1996, hundreds of letters, poems, artwork and more have come in from individuals and school groups that have been moved by the impact they felt from all of the exhibits they encountered.

Some of the events that have been held at the museum are "Medical Ethics from the Holocaust to Present Times", "Who are the Real Heroes?", "The Fate of a Man", "Remembering the Past for the Sake of Future" and many others. There is always something new and informative to learn about at the museum.

One of the permanent exhibits that is on display is called "Bearing Witness: A Community Remembers". This is an exhibit that mainly focuses on the stories of some of the Holocaust survivors that are living with the Houston area. During your viewing of this exhibit you can see a few short films with verbal testimony from the area survivors.

The hours that the museum is open are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and then on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. The museum is located on 5401 Caroline Street in Houston, Texas. General admission is completely free, making this a great place to bring the entire family for an educational outing and learning experience that they will not soon forget. For more information or to ask general questions, you can call the Holocaust Museum at (713) 942-8000.
