The symphony was founded back in 1913 and is known to be one of the oldest performing arts organizations in America. There have been many wonderful leaders of the talented orchestra over the years bringing them to the top of their performing abilities.
There are approximately 170 concerts performed each year at the Houston Symphony, entertaining more than 350,000 people. Some of the amazing performances include: Time Warner Family Concerts, the Gold Classic Series, Messiah Performances at Christmas, The Houston Chronicle Dollar Concert, and many more.
The design inside the Houston Symphony is just amazing as well. Interior design includes a gorgeous scarlet carpet, teakwood and travertine marble accents, and stunning sixty-six foot ceilings. Once you get inside you can also enjoy a glass of exquisite wine, a steamy cappuccino, or gourmet desserts while you wait for the performance. All of this makes for quite an enchanting and entertaining experience.
For those patrons wishing to bring children, they are welcome to all Houston Symphony events if they are age six or older. Time Warner First Concerts are available for viewing by children of all ages, including infants. To those performances, all children older than one must have a ticket.
Pictures are not allowed at all during any performances in the hall. Items such as cellular phones, pagers and other noises devices are prohibited as well. Also, food items are not permitted inside during performances. There are plenty of areas outside in the lobby to consume food and drink before showings or during intermissions.
