Tennessee Walking Horse Museum

If you or someone you are visiting Nashville with, is a horse lover, check out the Tennessee Walking Horse Museum.

You can learn a lot of interesting facts about this outstanding breed of horse. The Tennessee Walking Horse is a composite breed that evolved from the Narragansett Pacer, Canadian, Morgan, Standardbred, Thoroughbred and American Saddlebred. These bloodlines were fused into one animal in the middle Tennessee bluegrass region, resulting in one of the most special breeds of horses ever - the Tennessee Walking Horse - Also, this is the first breed of horse to bear a state name.

The Tennesee Walker has an usually smooth gait and was bred to combat the tough Tennessee terrain, which it does quite easily. At the Museum, you will learn about this horse's gentle disposition and kind manner. The ease of which it can be taught and it's high intelligence level. You will also learn it is a great horse for anyone beginning to ride as the Tennessee Walker has a very docile temperament.

They don't call this breed the Tennessee Walker for nothing, at the museum you will see the horse's distinctive gait demonstrated. There are three main gaits this horse has and the running walk is the gait for which the Tennessee Walker is most well-known.

The admission to to the Tennessee Walker Museum is free and the hours of operation are : Tues. - Sat. 10 AM - 4 PM; closed noon - 1 PM for lunch.
