Next time you're in the San Antonio area and you have the kids along for the ride, make Kiddie Park in San Antonio a destination for your family.
This park has entertained millions of children and since its opening in 1925 it is now the oldest continuously operated amusement park in the U.S. geared toward tykes 12 years old and younger.
For the past 76 years, this park has delighted children of all ages and since it's especially geared towards children under 12, you're younger children don't have to feel left out at the amusement park for once. The rides are fun and a little fast without being frightening. Best of all, parents will like the way the prices are easy on the bank account and an affordable venue where your kids have a great time is not an easy place to find in this day and age.
The centerpiece of the 10-ride amusement park is the 1918 Hershell-Spellman Carousel. This is the one and sole ride that adults can ride on. It has been in operation since 1936 and has 36 jumping horses and two chariot seats are made of hand-carved wood. This carousel is only one of fewer than 100 from its day that remain in active operation.
Your kids will enjoy the most popular ride at the Kiddie Park. The Flying Saucer. Built in 1962, the metal compartments take the riders in a big circle. Next to it is one of the park's most unusual rides, the Hodges hand cars from the 1930s. Chain-driven with a hand crank, the little cars go around the track by kid power. This will insure your kids sleep well that night.
The park is open daily, year-round except when there is inclimate weather or the temperature is below 50 degrees. Next time you're in the San Antonio area and the kids are begging for something fun that they want to do, take them to Kiddie Park!
