Beautiful Marion Square
Anyone who visits the area of Charleston, South Carolina, usually makes a plan to visit what is called Marion Square. This is a lovely, 10-acre area in Charleston that used to actually be known as the Citadel Green. Not only is this a great little scenic area, perfect for a leisurely walk, there are also several monuments that you can check out on the grounds.
One of the monuments that you can view when you visit Marion Square is the John C. Calhoun Statue. John C. Calhoun was a native of South Carolina, as well as a United States Senator and Vice President. Along with being able to view and learn about such wonderful historic monuments, this area in Charleston is also a very popular recreation spot for most people. On any given day, you will more than likely find people relaxing and possibly reading or having a picnic on the grounds.
During the month of December, Marion Square is the site of the Official Christmas Tree of Charleston as well as the holiday entertainment stage. It is quite a sight to see this gorgeous area all lit up and decorated to help celebrate the holidays. In addition to the Christmas Tree, Marion Square also has a large Hanukkah Menorah and a Kwanzaa Kinari.
