Nestled on over 250 acres in the beautiful Black Hills near Rapid City South Dakota lies Bear Country USA. Examine wildlife like you never have before! Interact with many different mammals in their natural habitat. Bear Country USA offers visitors up close views of many animals. While you visit Bear Country USA, take a pleasurable three-mile drive around and you will come across black bear, grizzly bear, elk, reindeer, deer, cougars, bobcats and many other species.
Bear Country USA was first opened in 1972 by Dr. Dennis "Doc" Casey, and his wife Pauline. At that time they had only 15 animals, including 11 black bears. Over the years, Bear Country USA has grown to become the largest collection of privately owned black bears. Park staff members take care of the many bears living at Bear Country USA. Along with the bears, they also raise wolves, bobcats and mountain lions throughout the year as they are born at the park. Bear Country USA is a unique experience for the entire family and one that everyone is sure to love!

2005 Admission Rates
Bear Country USA is open May through November. Peak season (June, July, August) hours are 8am to 7pm daily. Shoulder season (May, September, October, November) hours are 9am to 4pm. They are open every day of the week during the season.
