Journey through South Dakota's history at the Journey Museum
The Journey Museum is a great place to get an overview of the history of the Black Hills from prehistoric times until now. It's not easy to document the history for any given area, but that's exactly what The Journey Museum has done. The kids have the opportunity to interact with many of the displays.
In the museum of geology you can touch a dinosaur bone and see life-size dinosaur fossils. The archaeological research center at the Journey Museum allows visitors to visit an archaeological dig and view over 10,000 artifacts from many different periods of time. Learn more about the Lakota Indians and how they worked, played, hunted and lived at the Sioux Indian part of the museum. The pioneers come to life as you follow the arrival of the first Europeans to this area.
The Journey Museum store even has a vast selection of South Dakota artifacts that are reasonably priced. You can easily spend the better part of a morning or afternoon here exploring each of the four different parts of this museum.
