Majestic Elmwood Cemetery

If you are in search of a wonderful and unique place to visit in the Memphis, Tennessee area, you should really try to make some time to stop by the historic Elmwood Cemetery. This is a truly breathtaking place that got started way back in the 1800s. It originally started off as a 40 acre section of land and has since then grown into 80 acres total.

On the cemetery grounds, you will find a staggering amount of wonderful monuments on display. Many of the life-sized statues, angels, and figures can be found in various pictures taken by talented photographers over the years. These monuments are a lovely representation of the 70,000 people that are buried there. Visitors to the Elmwood Cemetery enjoy hearing all of the stories about some of the different people buried such as generals, doctors, immigrants, spies, outlaws and more.

If you wish, you may even take an informative tour during your visit to Elmwood Cemetery. This is the oldest cemetery that you will find in Memphis that is still active, so it is truly worth a trip and a tour so that you do not miss out on a single bit of the rich history. The tours usually last about an hour and a half, so be sure that you are wearing some comfortable gear.

You can even pack a lunch and have your own picnic at the cemetery if you wish, as there is a picnic area available for all visitors. Guests are invited to sit back and enjoy the wonderful landscaping, flowers and statues. The historic Elmwood Cemetery grounds are open each day from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.
