Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Located just outside of Keystone on Highway 244, the Mount Rushmore National Memorial is one of the most celebrated and beloved national monuments in America. The phenomenal monument that is the Mount Rushmore National Memorial spans a total of 1,278 acres and features the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved into stone. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a beautiful site that is simply mandatory viewing for all Americans who can make it out to see it.

Work on the National Memorial began in 1927, but it wasn't until 1941 that the statue on Mount Rushmore was fully completed. Gutzon Borglum was the man primarily responsible for carving and planning out this great American landmark, and his son Lincoln took over work on the project when Borglum a few months before completion in 1941. Seven months after Borglum's death, Mount Rushmore lost funding, leaving the National Memorial the way it is today.

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the summer, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the winter. There is no charge to enter the trail, but there is a small fee for parking your vehicle. There are two main ways to get to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial:. The first route is via highway 385 and then on to Highway 244, which will lead you directly to the Memorial. The other route is to take I-90 to Rapid City, take Highway 16 southwest over to Keystone and after that take Highway 244, which will lead you straight to the memorial.

Visiting the Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a fun and highly enjoyable experience that you are sure to remember forever.
