Seeing Graceland, Memphis
No trip to Memphis, Tennessee would be complete without visiting Graceland the home of the King, Elvis Presley. If you're a fan or not it really is something to see.
Elvis died in 1977 and Graceland opened up as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state and a Mecca for his fans in 1982. The King had it especially built for him on 14 acres and now it serves as a museum of his life and times.
For the price of your ticket you get to enter his mansion and see how he lived from living rooms to bedrooms. But the main attraction seems to be his numerous displayed costumes that he was famous for from leather to lame'. Also on display are his collections of gold records, films, awards and trophies. The King loved his toys and took great pleasure and pride in them which includes jets, cars, and motorcycles for your viewing.
To give the whole tour a very personal and loving touch throughout you will enjoy a digital audio tour featuring the voices of daughter Lisa Marie and Elvis himself. As you walk through you will definitely feel a sense of the King and the love he felt for his family and their home. The tour ends in the Meditation Garden, where Elvis and members of his family are buried.
Right next door to the mansion is a special hotel well worth checking out called the Heartbreak Hotel. Very 60s and 70s retro designed with many specially themed rooms.
