The Calhoun Mansion is located at 16 Meeting Street, just a bit north of South Battery Street in downtown Charleston. This gorgeous structure was actually built all the way back in the year 1876. Many people love to look around at the beautiful woodwork in this mansion which includes fine cherry, walnut and oak. There is quite an impressive amount of original antique furniture still located all throughout the mansion, complete with gas chandeliers. These touches add a decent amount of charm to this already lovely home.
Many visitors are also surprised at the amazing ballroom that is located within the Calhoun Mansion. This lovely ballroom is complete with a stunning domed ceiling of glass. It is quite nice to imagine all of the stories that could be told if those walls could talk. Be sure to bring along your camera so that you can capture the splendor for yourself!
When you are looking to stop by the Calhoun Mansion, the hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. There are regular closings on Monday and Tuesday as well as all of the major national holidays. Cost of admission is only $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 5 through 10, and free for children ages 4 and under.
