Enjoy a Day at Point State Park
Located in Pittsburgh's "Golden Triangle", the Point State Park is a regular attraction for many tourists entering the city. Visitors can walk along the riverfront to overlook areas that offer a fantastic view of Pittsburgh's bridges, hillsides, and waterways.
Among the favorite attractions at Point State Park, tourists are attracted to the 150-foot tall fountain located at the headwaters of the Ohio River. The fountain is operated daily from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm when weather permits during the spring, summer and fall. Over 800,000 gallons of water cycle through the fountain's system when it is operating. Although the circular basin of the fountain is 200 feet in diameter, the size isn't the main attraction for visitors. When operating, the fountain displays water in shapes known as peacock tails that are lit with white and gold lights.
Point State Park also displays numerous point of historical interest with 23 monuments, markers and plaques that can be located throughout the park. Each marker or plaque describes events, places and people of historic importance. While strolling through the Point State Park, you'll have the opportunity to view the permanent exhibit, the Music Bastion, which reveals part of the original foundation of Fort Pitt. The Fort Pitt Museum is housed in the Monongahela Bastion and shows the history of the frontier period as well as offers many displays and exhibits which describe the historical impact of the area. Other attractions at the Point State Park include the Fort Pitt Blockhouse and the Royal American Regiment.
Point State Park is accessible for people with disabilities at the main park entrance, rest rooms, water fountains and the riverfront wharf walkway. For more information on accessibility or on attractions at Point State Park, contact the park office at 888-PA-PARKS.
