Gettysburg National Military Park
The Battle of Gettysburg marked the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. There is the small town of Gettysburg Pennsylvania, a battle raged for three days in July of 1863. The Union victory ended any hope of success for this second invasion of the North by the advancing Robert E. Lee, and his army of Northern Virginia. 51,000 soldiers were either killed, missing, captured or wounded on that day.
The Military Park exhibits over 1400 memorials and markers within nearly 6000 acres of land. It should take about four hours to cover the grounds and the exhibits. The Civil War relics at the National Park Visitor Center, house many artifacts of interest for the budding historian.
