Pittsburgh Zoo is an Unbelievable Experience
There are only six aquarium and major zoo combinations in the country, and the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is one of those. Open every day of the year except New Year's Day, Christmas and Thanksgiving, the zoo has become home for thousands of animals, including 32 threatened or endangered species.
The Pittsburgh Zoo has an amazing area for kids that has been ranked among the top three children's zoos in the country. The children's zoo offers walk-through areas, a sea lion pool and an Animal Connections Playgound. The Pittsburgh Zoo also has interactive displays and unique animal exhibits to expand the interest of children in animals. The Pittsburgh Zoo isn't just for kids, but for people of all ages. Visit the regal Siberian tigers or the endangered snow leopard while touring through the Asian Forest. Or, maybe you prefer the African Savanna offered at the Pittsburgh Zoo. In the African Savanna, you can see the black rhinos, zebras, lions and other African animals as they roam around their 16 acres.
Also offered at the Pittsburgh Zoo is the Tropical Forest Complex, Bears, Cheetah Valley and the PPG Aquarium which opened in June 2000. The Aquarium is 45,000 square feet that serves as the home to more than 4,000 animals including stingrays, the electric eel, penguins and other exotic fish and animals. The Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium has numerous displays including the Pennsylvania Waters Exhibit, a 100,000 gallon tank with fish and sharks, and Stingray Tunnel which serves as an educational exhibit that children can crawl through while sting rays swim beside them.
A trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will prove not only entertaining, but also educational for the young and old alike. The zoo is handicapped accessible and offers an open-air tram. Groups are welcome, but need to make reservations at least two weeks prior to the tour date. Whether traveling as a family or as a group, the Pittsburgh Zoo is an attraction that is unbelievable and deserves a full day of your time.
