The Ohio State Reformatory
If you are looking for a unique and interesting place to visit when you are in the Mansfield area, you should really think about stopping by the Ohio State Reformatory, located at 100 Reformatory Road. If you have ever wanted to visit the site of an old state prison facility that is rich with history, then this is the place to see. The Ohio State Reformatory is now actually recognized as a historical site. Chances are that you may have even seen these facilities in a couple of different movies or television shows, as this is quite a popular place to film.
This interesting historical site was built way back in 1886 and stayed in operation until 1990. Not only is it very intriguing to view this great piece of architecture, it is also quite wonderful to hear all of the stories surrounding the facility. Depending on when you stop by for a visit, you may be able to take part in one of the special events to take place at the prison. There are regularly scheduled ghost hunts, ghosts walks and even special Haunted Prison tours to take place during the Halloween season every year.
If you would like to visit the Ohio State Reformatory, you may do so Tuesday through Friday, and also on Sunday. The facilities are closed on Mondays and Saturdays of every week. Tuesday through Friday, you will find that you may take a general tour of the building. All general daily tours begin at 2:00PM. When you arrive for a visit on a Sunday, you are able to take your choice of two different tours, the Dungeon Tour and the Tower Tour.
