Robert Frost Farm
The Robert Frost Farm, which is located on route 28 in Derry, was home to Robert Frost and his family from 1900 to 1911. Robert Frost is one of the nation’s most acclaimed poets, and his writings are said to be the epitome of New England. Frost attributed many of his poems to the memories he had from his years in Derry. This simple, two story clapboard farmhouse is typical of 1880’s New England.
There are tours, displays, a trail, and poetry readings available here, and programs are offered to the public at no charge. All of these things are possible because of grants from the New Hampshire Humanities Council, and sponsors, including the Robert Frost Homestead Trustees.
The house has been restored to look as it did when Robert Frost and his family lived there. The home’s caretakers actually enlisted the help of his family when they were decorating it, and used their childhood memories to make things look as authentic as possible. There is even china pieces on display in the dining room that belonged to Robert Frost and his wife. There is an extensive network of trails surrounding the home, that leads hikers into nearby woods, maybe this is the road less traveled?
At the Robert frost farm, you can go on guided house tours, see a children’s garden, and walk along the Hyla Brook Trail. The Hyla Brook Trail is an interpretive trail that has an accompanying brochure. The visitor’s center in the barn offers guests a chance to purchase Robert Frost books and merchandise.
