See the Fourth Ward School in Virginia City
If your next charter bus excursion will be taking you to the charming city of Virginia City in Nevada, make it a point to stop by the Fourth Ward School.
Located on Highway 341, this venue is a fun trip back to the past. History buffs will enjoy seeing how education was doled out the residents of Virginia City in the late 1800's. This was considered a truly modern building at the time.
Many of the original furnishings and even the old blackboards that were used still remain in place. The facility is now used as a meeting hall, gallery and historical museum for the area. Children will especially be intrigued by the amount of items used in the school in the 1800's are still in use today. Chalk, blackboards, pull down maps are all throwbacks to teaching styles of days gone by.
There is also said to be a resident ghost of this building and if you're looking for something off the beaten path to do in the late afternoon or evening, you can even take a ghost tour and attempt to photograph "Amy" the little girl that supposedly wanted to only go to school but was killed in a fire at her home and continued to come to the school anyway.
Admission is only $2.00 for Adults and Children over 12. All children under the age of 12 are admitted free.
