See the Liberace Museum
Who knew that in 1906, when Salvatore Liberace left Formia, Italy to move to the United States, he would be married, have 7 children and create a new era of music that would inspire so many? His third child, Walter Valentino Liberace, was born on May 16, 1919. After being inspired to use only his last name he became one of America's Greatest Icons.
The Liberace Museum was founded and opened on April 15, 1979 by Liberace himself. The museum is separated into different areas that showcase different times in his life. One side of the museum displays cars and pianos while the other has artifacts and exhibits of jewelry and rare antiques. Capes that have over 40,000 rhinestones, examples of collections that only have one other owner and that is Queen Elizabeth along with a collection of photographs, clippings and articles that show a timeline of Liberace's life and career are just a few of the items that you will find in the museum.
The non-profit museum helps support the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. Scholarships have been provided since 1976 to universities, organizations and colleges. A total of over 4.5 million dollars have been paid to help continue the advancement of classical music.
