See the Sights in Hammond

Hammond is not far from New Orleans and as a result did suffer damage in the Hurricane in 2005. As a precaution, please don't book any of these venues without calling first as many facilities are still not open for a regular work week as of September 2006 and many are operating on limited schedules due to personnel shortages.

A very interesting stop to make on your tour bus visit to Hammond is to the Julia Sims Nature Photography located at 145 W Pine St # D where your tour bus group will be treated to some very detailed and close up views of plants, animals and people through the eyes of the photographer. There are prints and original photos available for sale as well in case you find the perfect gift for someone back home. Please call (985) 386-0060 to verify hours of operation for your tour bus group's visit.

Another private gallery that will be a treat to visit is the LA Gallery Royale which is located at 106 E Railroad Avenue and has a good number of original artworks on display as well as prints. Please call (985) 878-2044 to discuss booking a group tour for your bus group.

A museum that is off the beaten path is the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum located at 514 Chartres Street. This unusual museum doesn't outline the history of pharmacists per se, instead it outlines the hundred-year-old history of the American Cocktail.

When prohibition was declared and drinking was illegal in the United States, a person needed a doctor's prescription to purchase alcohol for "medicinal purposes". At the museum you will see prescriptions alcohol to treat a myriad of prescriptions and a recreation of the great cocktail palaces that flourished toward the end of the nineteenth century.

Another fun exhibit outlines the exact origins of the word "cocktail" and how it came to mean having a drink. There is also a retailers catalogue for necessary items to run a saloon in 1918. If you're tour bus group is looking to see something a little out of the ordinary, this will fit the bill. For information on seeing this venue with your tour bus group, please call (504) 565-8027.
