Childhood Perception of a Bus Changed
by Eilene Rodigeuz
Remember the days when you rode in a school bus waiting just to get to school? Remember those days whereby you'd always be equipped with a quick comic book so that you could kill time waiting for the bus to just GET TO the destination? And remember the times when you needed to go to the bathroom and the bus is, like, stuck in heavy traffic and not getting anywhere near the final destination? Yes, those were the days. WERE - that's the operative word because my whole childhood perception of bus traveling changed that day.
To be honest with you, It's been ages since I've been on a bus.be it charter bus, school bus, big bus, small bus, tour bus.whatever.it's been ages and I had a chance to ride in one HUGE bus two days ago. The event was organized by my company and they hired this tremendously humongous bus for it whereby they can get everyone into the bus at the same time so that no one can bail out at the last minute. The bus service certainly killed our chances of using the 'I was stuck in traffic therefore late' excuse. The charter bus was so big that everyone got in and got seats and I had to keep my jaw clamped shut because the interior of the bus a far cry from what I remember of a bus. It was nothing like a bus!
I mean it.seriously, the bus came with many different equipments and funky gadgets, electronical devices and most of all..a bathroom. Short of sounding like I just came out from living in solitary confinement or been living in a tree (hence, never seen a bus in my life!), it was a.luxurious bus. A bathroom was heaven-sent because I have very scary memories of holding back the call of nature in a bus.
This was a big surprise for me, big enough a surprise to warrant a whole blog entry about it. Who would've thought that while the human race evolved (very slowly), a bus would evolve too.
The bus was spacious and luxuriously equipped with seats so shiny that it was almost slippery. All the equipments in the charter bus were dust-free and polished - completely spick and span. And as we, me and my colleagues, piled into the bus, there was this sense of getting into a small luxury hotel room together.
As we went on our way, the journey was long but we didn't even notice it because we were too preoccupied with arguing with each other about who got to choose the channel next. I suspect that there was a massive traffic jam right outside the charter bus windows, if we cared to look, but we didn't because we were too comfortable in the bus.
This experience with a charter bus totally changed my childhood perception of a bus ride. Not only did the bus NOT make any loud growling noises (it sort of purred along), it had a bathroom! For me, I guess the bathroom of the bus will be in my mind for a long time to come.
