Marriott's Seaview Resort - Bay Course

Marriott's Seaview Resort - Bay Course

There may not be a more appealing view of the Atlantic City skyline than the one a golfer enjoys while sizing up his approach shot into the par-4 sixth hole at the Seaview Marriott Resort Bay Course. You are reminded of all the adventure of Atlantic City just a short distance away but keeping your game in mind in a more peaceful setting.

Out on the Bay Course, maintaining the classic design has been top priority. Restoration of the course has been as exact as possible to the original layout of Donald Ross, who designed the course in 1914. Some very notable guests through history have played on this course such as President Warren G. Harding, Princess Grace Kelly and Bob Dylan. The classic design has remained intact while adding modern conveniences as data ports for laptops and faxes.

It features an exceptional eighteen hole regulation course. The Bay Course is a seaside links-style design that features undulating greens. This course has several sand bunkers spread throughout its design, and water hazards come into play on some of holes. The Bay Course, however, generally does not overwhelm with length. The course specializes in subtleties right through the greens. The Bay Course was listed in Golf's Magazine as a "Silver Medal Course".

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum - Atlantic City

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum - Atlantic City

Atlantic City's Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum is located on the Boardwalk at New York Avenue and is open year-round. This building looks as if a wrecking ball is about to knock it down, but inside lies a treasure trove of interesting and unusual artifacts, photos and stories.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museums are all over the world. They were created to display exhibits that one would find so bizarre that you would have to see it to believe it. Some objects that the museum feature are ones that Robert Ripley himself collected in the 1920s and 1930s. Each museum features its own exhibits so you would not see the same objects in the museum in Orlando, FL as you would see in Atlantic City.

Some of the unusual exhibits at the Atlantic City museum include objects made out of common materials which you might never think you could build. A scale model of Christopher Columbus's Santa Maria is made out of over 27,000 matchsticks. There is also a life-size Michael Jordan statue made entirely out of paper, plastic, wire and broken glass shards.

There are many other strange objects and photographs at Ripley's Atlantic City museum. A Fiji Island mermaid which P.T. Barnum once passed off as a real mermaid is on display. There are photographs of people who survived incredible danger. One photograph shows a man's scars after he was viciously attacked by a Great White shark. The scars run from the back of this left arm where it meets the shoulder, down his back and up under his ribs. Amazing he survived! There is a model of Bakur the Gypsy who performed a strange act. He would dance for an hour while he balanced a 40-quart pot that held his infant twins on the top of his head. Incredible! Ripley's Mail Room contains mail which Robert Ripley received on a daily basis. You can actually read some of the letters from people who experienced the bizarre happenings that fascinated Robert Ripley so much.

If the bizarre appeals to you as much as it did to Robert Ripley, you definitely have to visit the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum when you visit Atlantic City.

Lagoon Legend

Lagoon Legend

If you go to play golf at Lagoon Legend, there has been a little name change. The course has been redesigned by Gary Nicklaus, son of legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. This course will be renamed the Nicklaus Course at Bay Point, is on pace to reopen in the fall.

Lagoon Legend was designed to be a grueling layout that rarely allowed golfers to catch their breath. Undulating fairways, five dozen bunkers and water on nearly every hole accounted for Lagoon Legend's 152 slope rating. Making it among the most difficult courses in the United States.

The Nicklaus redesign will make the course a little more friendly for golfers of every level while maintaining the challenge that Golfers from all over the world came to experience at Lagoon Legend. Previously, in order to play on Lagoon Legend, golfers had to schedule a minimum of 10+ hours to dedicate to this challenging course. The redesign is made for golfers to have a great game but be done within about 4-6 hours, so more golfers can enjoy a great afternoon of golfing.

Some of the redesign changes include the back tees will be a different tee shot, and the front tees will be moved up so a person that can't fly the ball a certain distance will have more forgiving approaches.

Lagoon Legend's layout, originally designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin in 1986, covered 6,900 yards from the back tees. Currently, every hole currently is being reshaped from scratch with only the bare bones of the original course remaining.

When this course reopenes in the Fall, it will be a delight and a challenge to play!

Museum Of Man In The Sea

Museum Of Man In The Sea

This museum was built to honor the brave souls who used their expertise to create ways for man to explore the oceans deeper and more thoroughly than ever before.

The Museum of Man-in-the-Sea has been a quietly popular Panama City Beach, Florida tourist attraction for a number of years

There is a huge collection of diving memorabilia, some of it very unusual. You will also see displays of scuba gear from the earliest attempts at creating it to the state of the art mael suits of today for shark diving.

There is a submersible exhibit that shows how far we have come in a short period of time as far as allowing man to dive deep beneath the ocean floor. Most people don't know that every 14 feet is another atmosphere of pressure. As you go deeper and deeper the pressure that is exerted on both vehicle and man is incredible so necessary adaptations had to be made to prevent vehicles from crumpling like stryofoam cups under pressure from the surrounding water and people from getting "the bends" which is a painful condition in which air bubbles form and cause excruciating pain when a diver is ascending.

Hence, deep sea diving gear was developed. Heavy helmets that lock into pressurized suits made much like an astronaut's suit eliminated some of the risk. You can try on one of these helmets and see exactly how heavy they are at the Museum. There is also a touch pool where you can pet a ray and other hands on experiences kids and kids at heart will enjoy!

Museum hours are 9 to 5, seven days a week and credit cards are accepted. This is a tourist destination that is off the beaten path and one you will have fond memories of for years to come.
