Lone Star Brewery

Lone Star Brewery

If you're going to be visiting the Lone Star State in the near future, make time to sample the National Beer Of Texas, Lone Star Beer. The Lone Star Brewery was built on Jones Avenue in San Antonio Texas in 1904, with one Mister Adolph Busch acting as its first President.

The brewery was closed in 1918 due to prohibition but was reopened on Mission Road in 1933 when prohibition was overturned and the brewery began producting beer under the "Sabinas" brand name that was later renamed to "Champion" beer. In 1940 the name was changed from the Champion Brewing Company to Lone Star Brewing Company.

In the tenth incarnation of this brewing company, the Lone Star Brewing Company was initiated in 1959 with the acquisition of the Progress Brewing Company in Oklahoma City. Lone Star operated that plant until it sold in 1973 to the Oklahoma League for the Blind. By the end of the fifties decade, Lone Star had gained the reputation as the World's Most Beautiful Brewery due to its outstanding design and decor and was one of the first breweries to offer tours of its production facilities.

In 1976 the Lone Star Brewery was acquired by Olympia Brewing Company of Tumwater, Washington. Then the G. Heileman Company of LaCrosse, Wisconsin bought the Olympia Brewing Company and Lone Star along with it 1983.

Yet another twist in the ownership of this brewery occurred in 1996 when the G. Heileman Company was acquired by Stroh Brewery Company which closed the San Antonio brewing facility.

Finally in 1999 the Pabst Brewing Company purchased the Lone Star brand and moved the Lone Star production to the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio where it is today. Be sure and visit this quiet part of Texas history and sample the beer that Texans have been loving for generations.

Fiesta Texas, San Antonio

Fiesta Texas, San Antonio

If you're looking for a great way to spend a day with your family in San Antonio, take them to Fiesta Texas.

Fiesta Texas has a reputation as a clean, fun amusement park. It's noted as one of the best maintained amusement parks in the State of Texas. There are a number of theme areas such as the Board Walk, the Bavarian German area, and the requisite Old West area, and Old Mexico.

There are five main rollercoasters here for you to enjoy. The Rattler is an old fashioned wooden coaster that is massive and gives you an old fashioned rollercoaster rough ride.

Poltergeist is a confusing mesh of turns and twists. This powerhouse goes from 0 - 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It twists, turns, and flips and returns you to the station, hopefully with your stomach contents intact.

The Road Runner Express is a fun steel coaster that was designed more for kids but with its drops and curves, adults can enjoy it too.

Boomerang is a cool rollercoaster for anyone that likes the back and forth coasters. You got all the forward and then up a steep embankment and then with the momentum generated-you travel backwards to your original starting point. The entire trip takes less than 2 minutes.

Superman Krypton Coaster is one hot coaster. If you don't ride any other coaster at Fiesta Texas, make sure to ride this one. This is a floorless coaster and your feet dangle as you're taken along the 4,025-foot long track. This coaster has loops, corkscrews and goes fast to boot.

There are numerous other rides at Fiesta Texas, even some for the little ones to enjoy. If you happen to be visiting during the hotter months in Texas, take full advantage of the free water park that Fiesta Texas has. It's a fun way to cool off.
