Afro-American Historical Society Museum - Jersey City, New Jersey

There are many other African-American museums spattered all around the country and although many others have better facilities and are quite significantly larger than the one here in Jersey City, it’s still a worthwhile bus tour stop. Many of Jersey City schools and bus tour operators take their foreign visitors for a bus tour stop here as they will learn a whole about tradition African-American culture here. The exhibits are devoid of modern influence, which is what makes it interesting. While there is always a fee to enter a museum, Jersey City’s Afro-American Historical Society Museum is free for all.

Captain Thomas Taylor was the Jersey City Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It was he who came up with the idea and saw that there is an immediate need to have a cultural museum like this Jersey City bus tour attraction to help educate people about the culture of the African-American. Together with other influential figures in Jersey City, this museum was then born. This bus tour attraction and museum’s main aim is to preserve, reserve, exhibit, collect and research the whole culture and educate the people who are interested.

Make a bus tour stop at this Jersey City attraction and be enchanted with the many artifacts in their galleries. You can also attend their free lectures, take a look at their special exhibits which includes many memorabilia and documents. Many people found documents on the Pullman Porters, the Civil Rights Movement, the slave trade in Jersey City, the underground railroad very interesting. We thought you might too.

Afro-American Historical Society Museum in Jersey City is at 1841 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07305-2106. If you want more details before you make a bus tour stop here, call 201-547-5262 for more information.
