There will come a time when one gets bored of all the shopping, dining and pub-crawling activities – and I hit one of those during one of my Atlanta Georgia charter bus rental escapades last year. Out of the kindness of their hearts, my friends decided to join me in my quest to break some sweat during the trip and we asked the charter bus driver where would be the best place to hit for some hiking and climbing. He recommended a place near Fort Mountain State Park in which lies a place called Big Rock Nature Trail. Oh…they named it right, alright…it’s pretty rocky there. 0.8 miles of hiking trail running in a loop (safe, for your information) in Murray Country, there’s everything scenic to be had here.
When we arrived at this Atlanta GA hiking trail, I was itching to get my boots dirty and after doing some research on the Internet, I’ve heard many good things about this trail. Before the Atlanta GA rented charter bus could come to a complete stop, I was already hopping off. The drive there in itself was already inspiring enough as we caught sight of the waterfalls and part of the stream. There’s a shorter trail linked to Big Rock, which is the Gahuti Trail…I was thinking that if we had the time, we’d do that one as well. At the entrance, we were met with a cooling forest and welcomed by singing birds. What a wonderful welcome! There was a soft breeze blowing at our faces and soft fluffy clouds told us that rain is as far away as Australia is, so we were not to be robbed of our delight in enjoying the trail. One of the people at the tickets counter told us that Big Rock Nature Trail is big with foreigners as well and during summer time, he’d find many Atlanta GA charter bus rental tourists piling in and out of their buses for a taste of natural Atlanta. Apparently, one can only visit the CNN or Coca-Cola that many times in one lifetime.
Just a short while walking along the trail, we came to an intersection leading into another short trail, the Gahuti Backcountry Trail, turns out both trails share the same footpath. We were warned of small animals but none of the dangerous…none that they know of, at least. At some point, we came to a sort of rickety bridge. I decided to take the bridge and snapped some much-treasured photos there! the view and the photos were simply jaw-dropping! There are no other words that can adequately describe the feeling of standing suspended on the bridge, breathing in the same air that some other wild animals are breathing in.
Turns out, I needed all the air that I could take in at the start because after that, the hike turned a little hilly, leaving some of my friends who joined me on this madcap Atlanta GA charter bus rental expedition, gasping for breath. The rise was steep, the drop was daunting…basically, you’ll have the chance to test gravity. But it was definitely well worth it…especially we rounded the trail (which was heading back towards the beginning of the loop) and came face-to-face with Gold Mine Creek. It was simply amazing. There’s a 2000 foot plunge that ended up in a breathlessly beautiful lake…we took the time to enjoy the lake, kick off our shoes and closed the door to reality for a while.
At the end of the day, we never did come across animals bigger than a rabbit although we did think we heard the silent slither or a snake nearby but we were warned about it and we walked REALLY softly towards the end.
What a breath of fresh air…and if you’re going to be there in Atlanta GA for a charter bus rental holiday trip, be sure to drop by this beautiful, scenic hiking trail.
